South Yorkshire Police Crucial Crew Event

The Children and Young People's Unit promotes positive engagement with all children and young people in South Yorkshire.

Children and Young People's Unit

Crucial Crew is an ingenious way of equipping young people (primarily year 6 pupils) with life skills that enable them to deal with and avoid a range of potentially hazardous situations.

Focusing on a range of life skills, as well as crime prevention and accident safety, these young people are placed in realistic scenarios and then encouraged to identify for themselves key areas of avoidance or remedy.

Crucial Crew takes place as part of the South Yorkshire Police Children and Young People Intervention Programme under Aim 2, Keeping Young People Safe and Aim 3, Partnership to promote positive citizenship.

The Crucial Crew programme is based upon four key aim areas:

  • Divert young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Keep young people safe
  • Promote positive citizenship
  • Promote positive relationships with the next generation of adults

Every South Yorkshire school is invited to attend the Crucial Crew event at Lifewise. Crucial crews base at Lifewise delivers key benefits to this ground-breaking project, including:-

  • A dynamic and professional set in which to base the scenarios
  • More realistic scenarios to further facilitate the learning taking place
  • The opportunity to expand scenarios to cover local issues quickly
  • An excellent venue in which to develop further initiatives based around crime reduction and community safety.
